FINAL MAGAZINE

Front Cover - Expression Music Magazine, which shows an image of two female artists, the shot is taken at a high angle so it seems as if you are looking down at them. The pricing for this magazine is £2.99 as most rock magazines average pricing is around the £2.80-£.50. The target audience ages range from 16-25, also to receive any extra information you can visit the website www.lesistersmusic.co.uk

Double Page Spread - For my double page spread I did a Q&A which gives away some more information about the two artists on my front cover and explains their story to making music.

The last two questions extended answers:

What are your favourite genres of music?Based around our family, we mostly enjoy listening to 70&80’s music so this will include genres such as Jazz, alternative pop, indie, rock and soul. Our favourite artists/bands are; The Smiths, Arctic Monkeys, London Grammar, Haim, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Nirvana, and Oasis the list goes on and on but these are only SOME of our favourites.

Do you have any particular interests or hobbies?
We both have an interest in art, fashion and music mostly as it is all a big part of our lives. Aside from music, we hope to study fashion or art at UAL and we usually like to draw random weird images of anything really as shown in photo B we have ‘ wall of art’ in our room which are images we have both drawn most of them are random or outfits we like to come up with. In Photo A is a small art gallery/shop where they sell artistic merchandise like painting, t-shirts, souvenirs, music CD’s etc, we usually go there weekly to buy the latest coolest stuff and they have great stuff to decorate our room!

                                         Contents Page -
Most rock magazines only contain features, so I did a list of features which relates to the consumer and target audience wise it features other similar artists within that genre of music.

Photography for Magazine

Photo-shoot Plan

For my photo-shoot I planned to not do it in the studio, as I feel I wanted my photography to be different from everyone else's and I think picking a suitable location for my shoot will good really well with my genre.

Location: I had two locations in mind, Camden Town and Stratford

These are a few images I took for my photography, they include a mid shot, long shots.

Photography Studio Notes

Scott's Lesson

Today in media, we were taken to the photography studio where we took notes on all the equipment used in the room so that we are prepared for our photography shoot weeks later. We were also given some tips of where our models should stand in position when taking our pictures for our magazine.

White backdrop is the backdrop used the photo shoot however it can be changed to black and the length and height can be changed. If a model was to stand too far back they will bleach in the backdrop, so therefore make sure they stand in the right position.

Trinity Flash head
On and off button
If you press ' test' you are testing the flash so that it builds up a charge.
A music note sign means ' the beat'.
Plus + to add more power to the flash, maximum is 6 so that means a harder stronger flash (be cautious of eyes).
Minus - means that the flash is weaker, minimum is 1.
3 to 1 Lighting Ratio
The splashes of light will give a bit of contrast to the photo.
Godos is the transmitter, make sure it is switched ON to flash. You just slot it through the handle, it then goes through to the receiver in the camera.
Gold reflectors give a warm glow to a picture.
Silver reflector give a hard bounce back.

We have 3 main points of lighting!
 1) Main/Key Light - has big squares which are called soft boxes.

 2) Field Light - This takes away any shadows in a picture.

3) Snoot/Hair Light - This puts light on the back of the model's head so that it shimmers. It separates the model from the backdrop.

Nikon D 7000, for the main photo shoot, we also have a (Canon 350 D for filming students) this camera to the left has 17 000 000 million mega- pixels. Lenses are 18-105 wide range from mid shot, close up or long shot.

Little play icon shows the previous picture taken but not for too long.
Zoom in + and zoom out -
Settings:
A stands out for aperture if you want to focus the camera.
S, the faster the shutter the more pictures it will take. Single frame shot can take loads of pictures.
Click menu + green camera on, click set picture control, standard, color, monochrome = black & white.

Task 5: Magazine newsstand Task

Part A of Task 5

For this task we had to take pictures of music magazine, but I couldn't really seem to find that many the majority of the ones in the shop had other types such as lifestyle, sports, fashion etc. When I first got to the local newsagent, I was surprised to see that the magazines were quite neatly organised but what I did notice was that the magazines aimed at a young audience tend to be placed at the bottom with extra teasers to grab their attention. At eye level, they are usually gossip or TV magazines this attracts mainly a female audience as it does appeal to their interest.

Task 5: Part B

Other distributions find other ways to also advertise and sell magazines such as Online magazines which can be free to read or paid for however, there are other methods can include apps, radio, Facebook, Instagram, social networking tend to be the most popular as it is accessible and people go on every day. I've collected a few examples from different sources to show you what I mean.

Billboard magazine use social media such as Facebook to post videos, images, articles etc also Youtube.

Q magazine have other methods such as a website which sells merchandise, so it helps to attract the target audience and for any one who reads the magazine daily.

Free Q Music Magazine app available to download on the App store.
